Founded in 1851, Northwestern University is recognized both nationally and internationally as a high-ranking research institution. In fact, the school is among the top 15 universities in the country, thanks in large part to its strong academic programs and wide range of academic subjects. Aside from its esteemed academic reputation, Northwestern’s opportunities extend outside of the classroom, where the school’s location–just outside of Chicago–makes for a slew of recreational options.

Boasting a diverse student body and excellence in academia, Northwestern encourages its dynamic students to challenge conventional wisdom. Students are supported by a broad range of opportunities to explore and learn through the university’s numerous opportunities, including field experiences, internships, and work-study programs. In addition, Northwestern’s programs in communication, management, and engineering are regularly recognized as leaders in their respective fields. The university has graduated many distinguished alumni working in areas ranging from entertainment to politics, including Stephen Colbert, David Schwimmer, and Rahm Emmanuel.

Northwestern’s Greek scene is rather large; the school currently features 19 sororities and 17 fraternities for students to choose from. In addition, the school’s athletic affiliation–in NCAA’s revered Big Ten conference–makes for plenty of exciting sporting events.
