Temple University is a public research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1884, it is one of the largest American universities. Temple has 17 undergraduate and graduate colleges on its main campus, with smaller international campuses in Rome and Tokyo. The University offers more than 300 degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Temple is one of the most ethnically diverse universities in the United States. About one-third of the school’s undergraduates identify themselves as students of color. The University ranks 13th out of the top 100 institutions that grant the most undergraduate degrees to African Americans. Distinguished University alumni include actor/comedian Bill Cosby; journalist Tamron Hall; and Shirley M. Tilghman, the current president of Princeton University.
Temple boasts 270 registered student organizations including fraternities/sororities, choral groups, a radio station, a model UN, and a literary magazine. The University offers a variety of athletic programs including field hockey, gymnastics, and rugby. Conveniently located near Philadelphia’s “Avenue of the Arts,” Temple’s main campus frequently hosts musical performances and guest presentations.
